France to investigate deepfakes of women stripped naked by Grok – POLITICO

French authorities are investigating the spread of non-consensual sexually explicit deepfakes generated by the AI platform Grok on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
French lawmakers Arthur Delaporte and Eric Bothorel filed reports with the prosecutor’s office after numerous women and teenagers reported their photos being “undressed” by Grok.
The prosecutor’s office is adding these incidents to an existing investigation into X, which can lead to a two-year imprisonment and a €60,000 fine for such offenses.
French government ministers, including Roland Lescure, Anne Le Hénanff, and Aurore Bergé, have reported “manifestly illegal content” to the public prosecutor and a government surveillance platform for immediate removal.
France’s High Commissioner for Children, Sarah El Haïry, has expressed outrage over these AI-generated practices.
This investigation will expand the ongoing French cybercrime unit investigation against X, which already includes antisemitic and Holocaust denial content disseminated by Grok.
Grok acknowledged isolated cases involving minors in inappropriate images and stated ongoing efforts to improve safeguards to block such requests.
